Lifting Up Westchester Essay Contest

Lifting Up Westchester Essay Contest
Todd Hembury

Lifting Up Westchester is an organization that connects families in need to emergency shelters, housing services, food and personal development, employment, and youth programs. This year’s contest challenges students to explore “The Power of Connection:  How can an emotional connection make LUW programs even stronger for our neighbors in need?”.  We invite students to visit www.liftingupwestchester.org to learn about our programs, choose one LUW program and imagine a new or expanded way emotional connection could make it even stronger. Your idea should go beyond general feelings (“more love” or “be kinder”) and propose a specific, actionable tool, activity, or approach that LUW could realistically implement to build upon the emotional connections in our program. What is an emotional connection? It could be friendship, empathy, mentoring, shared experiences, creative expression, or simply listening with care. Emotional connections can be created through artistic or creative endeavors. Consider dancing, comedy, music and photography as examples. These connections can lift spirits, build trust, and open doors to new possibilities.
