Dear Parents and Guardians of Eighth Grade Students,
Based on updated guidance from the New York State Department of Health regarding end of academic year celebrations, including an increase in capacity limits, we are happy to announce that we are able to eliminate the requirement that all students and guests at our upcoming Moving Up Ceremony provide a negative COVID test/ proof of immunization/ proof of recovery from COVID in order to attend the event.
By separating students from the rest of the attendees, we will be able to remove students from the overall count, thus keeping our total attendance (minus the students) under the new 500 person cap. With 500 or fewer attendees, we will have to comply with requirements regarding collection of health questionnaires and contact tracing, but can eliminate the other restrictions. We appreciate all of the parents who have already provided this information, but also understand the difficulties involved, particularly in securing a negative test within the brief window allowed.
Therefore, we now ask that each parent follow these protocols:
Our ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 24 on Franklin Field, across Franklin Place directly across from the middle school main entrance. Parents should drop their children off at the usual middle school entry point (the alley between the high school and the annex at the corner of Franklin Place and NYAC Avenue) at 3:30 p.m. All students will be required to hand in a completed Student Health Questionnaire or EZSCRN app prior to entering the building.
Guests will enter the field via the gate near the corner of Franklin Place and Nyac Avenue. All guests should complete this Online Visitor Health Screening Form before 9 a.m. on June 24. Do not fill out the form before June 24 as it will not be valid before that date. Alternately, guests can bring a paper copy of the Printed Visitor Health Screening Form. Each student can have two guests attend. Guests will be seated in assigned seats in groups of two at a 6’ distance from other groups.
At the start of the ceremony, students will enter the field via the gate on Wolfs Lane and will be seated facing the audience at a distance. At the conclusion, students will leave the field via the same entrance and return to the school. Students will then be dismissed to parents via the front entrance of the middle school, as during a normal dismissal from school.
In the event of rain, the outdoor event will be cancelled and replaced with a single indoor event for students only, to be held at 4 p.m. (drop off at 3:45). This will be recorded and shared with parents following the ceremony.
Thank you for your understanding as we work to navigate these changing protocols in order to provide a safe celebration for our students and their guests.
